Fighting has been ongoing since 15 April 2023 between the two strong men of Khartoum, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Sudanese Armed Forces, and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, aka Hemeti, the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The open conflict is having a knock-on effect across the sub-region. Burhan appoints trusted ambassador to Cairo ahead of Jeddah talks

Sudanese Armed Forces chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has appointed Emad al-Din Mustafa Adawi as Sudan's ambassador in Cairo. The move comes as talks with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces are to resume in Jeddah in the latest bid to end the civil war.
