Pretoria pushes to expand pro-Palestinian axis

The coalition of nations, co-chaired by South Africa, will meet this week in the Netherlands to defend Palestinian rights. An underlying goal is to explore the possibility of integrating countries from the Global North, despite their reluctance.

The head of state, who has been in power for four decades and is running for another term in the 15 March election, has reorganised his campaign team. With no rivals at the polls and a population increasingly disinterested in politics, Denis Sassou-Nguesso and his strategists fear a high abstention rate.

With the utmost discretion, Donald Trump's wife is organising an event on 24 and 25 March in Washington, which will bring together a selection of first ladies from across the continent. Arranged in close coordination with the White House, the meeting contributes to Melania Trump's rise to prominence on the international stage.
