UAE's new minister for Africa dives into Nile maelstrom

Soon after Sheikh Shakhboot became the Emirati minister for African affairs in February last year he took on the hot potato of Ethiopia's vast GERD dam. This gives the young diplomat a perfect opportunity to demonstrate his abilities on an issue that affects two of the UAE's traditional allies.

Lacking a successor to the post of director of police following a passports of convenience scandal, Patrice Talon has reappointed General Yaya as head of the organisation for two years. The Beninese head of state also promoted his former military chief of staff Bertin Dada, who played a pivotal role in the police crackdown just ahead the presidential election last year.

Quebec employers push to regulate Francophone workforce training

Riding off the launch of the Francophone employers' alliance in Tunis late week, Quebec business leaders called for a common framework on training workers throughout the French-speaking world. Shared protocols would help the qualified workers Quebec needs migrate to the country.
