Simplice Mathieu Sarandji has retained the role as speaker of the Central African Republic's National Assembly and reshuffled the parliamentary bureau in a move that has weakened his rival Évariste Ngamana. Ngamana now finds himself isolated and cut off from one of the country's largest budgets.

Faced with chronic fuel shortages, Lusaka has just revived long-dormant pipeline projects extending towards both coasts of the continent. While the desire to diversify supply seems justified, these programmes raise serious questions around their cost and coherency.
