Domestic political agendas are in the process of remodelling the regional balance of power between Sudan and Chad while, in the neighbouring Central African Republic, the role of Wagner, which is an ally of Sudan but hostile to Chad, is raising questions.

With the utmost discretion, the Chadian government has sent a team of generals to Doha to try to garner support within the rebels. One of their key targets is Timan Erdimi, nephew to the late Idriss Déby and a powerful figure among the Chadian rebellions of the last two decades.

After the head of the ousted Alpha Conde's government, along with three other former ministers, was detained earlier this month to face charges of diverting state funds, his supporters got busy preparing his defence, putting together a crack legal team and trying to rally a bevvy of West African heads of state to his cause.
