Currently being debated in the French parliament, the "international development and solidarity" draft bill involves amending the legal framework governing international organisations that opt to establish themselves in France. The stated objective is to compete with Switzerland in this domain.

Having hoped to persuade the Congolese president to back Botswana's candidate for SADC secretary-general, Masisi has returned from Kinshasa empty-handed. Now that he has done the rounds of most of the key influencers in this election, the Botswanan president has no choice but to pay a visit to his South African counterpart, with whom he does not have the best of relationships.

UN veteran Kituyi, who entered the presidential race in January, is backed by an array of hitherto neutral businessmen close to President Uhuru Kenyatta. This is only adding to the paranoia of Raila Odinga, who hopes to see his own candidacy blessed by the head of state.
