France has questioned former associates of the late Italian businessman Guido Santullo at Switzerland's request. The Swiss authorities have since 2018 been investigating the practices of Santullo's construction company Sericom, and have handed over a large number of documents to the French authorities.

Guido Santullo's family is trying to have at least one of his Swiss accounts, all of which have been frozen since 2018, released. This request was just rejected by the Swiss justice system, which is investigating corruption allegedly committed by the Italian construction contractor in Gabon.

Sericom, the Italian construction group founded by the late Guido Santullo, continues to face legal proceedings in France and Switzerland over allegations of bribery. Earlier this month, Santullo's family conclusively lost a long legal fight to recover some 90bn CFA francs (about $150m) it says Gabon owes it in unpaid invoices.
