Eve Bazaiba's shake-up may just have to wait. The Congolese environment minister's reorganisation of the forestry sector is still pending, thus raising concerns among the public and international partners about the future of the planet's second-largest rainforest. The project launched in mid-2022 by the Interministerial Commission for Reviewing Forestry Permits led to a preliminary report, finalised on 12 April, but putting its conclusions into practice is proving more of a struggle.
