Tshisekedi keeps close eye on Kabila ahead of presidential elections

Since the summer, Félix Tshisekedi's inner circle has been discreetly trying to resume talks with his predecessor's entourage. To this end, both camps have sought the support of the Togolese head of state Faure Gnassingbé. In parallel, the Congolese presidency is working on several proceedings that could directly concern Joseph Kabila and his powerful securocrat, General John Numbi.

As the election season approaches, ending with the ballot on 20 December, those currently in power are worried about what former president Joseph Kabila (2001-2019) and his clan may be planning. Aside from a public statement in June, Kabila has been keeping very quiet, fuelling all sorts of rumours about his actual intentions. Some hard-core "Kabilists"
