Museveni entourage's taste for cushy Total and CNOOC jobs
Uganda's political and business elite are keen for their children to land a position at Total or CNOOC and get a head start in the well-paid oil sector.
On 21 October, Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni's government officially authorised British Tullow Oil to sell its 33% share in Albert Lake to Total. Tullow Oil immediately put an end to its pending arbitration procedure against the state, thus cutting its last ties to Kampala.
The Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni is still determined to see through the Kabaale refinery project, even though there is now no chance that an investment decision will be taken prior to the 2021 presidential election in which he is intending to stand for a new term.
