The members of Samia Suluhu Hassan's private office are cast in the mould of her secretary, Juma Mkomi. They are young and highly qualified academically and have long been loyal supporters of the newly installed president. They are not products either of the rulingl party, the CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi). Suluhu, who became leader following the death of her predecessor John Magufuli, knows that she is in the firing line of two factions, one the CCM's hardliners and the other Magufuli's inner circle.

The new Tanzanian president has chosen a number of her former collaborators as her close advisers at the president's office. Young and highly qualified academically, they also have in common the fact that they are not products of the CCM, the party which has been in power since the country became independent.
