AFRICOM head Townsend pulls every political and military string to counter growing Chinese influence

The head of the US military command for Africa embarked on a major African tour in May that took him from Djibouti to Angola via Somalia, Kenya and Rwanda. The aim was to brief American diplomats and high-ranking officers of the US Army on how to strengthen security cooperation with African partners in order to limit the progress of Chinese influence in East and Southern Africa.
