Cash-strapped PM cuts salaries of ministers, civil servants
Late last month Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre requested ministers pay be temporarily cut by 20 percent and civil servants' pay by 5%.
From his Baidoa base, Abdiaziz Laftagareen is busy networking and making his influence felt. He was recently in Nairobi for talks with the new administration of William Ruto, without having cleared this first with the federal president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.
As well as carrying out a rare attack on Ethiopian territory, the Al-Shabaab terrorist group is taking advantage of the disarray among the security forces to take up position around the Somali capital. Somalia's recently elected president is looking to secure the resources he needs to wage the open war he has declared against it.
