West Africa ponders choice of next UNOWAS head
The Dakar-based post UN post has been vacant since October and the names of several African diplomats are doing the rounds.
As chairman of the AU's High Level Committee on Libya, the Congolese president has dispatched his foreign minister to the country to oversee mediation efforts. Meanwhile, the pan-African body is lobbying in New York to have one of its candidates chosen to head up the UN support mission.
The pan-African organisation recently sent a list to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres of four candidates it would like to see head the UN mission in Libya, including two of Africa's diplomatic heavyweights. Africa Intelligence reveals their names.
