The approval of this $4bn deal by the Canadian authorities marks a new chapter in diplomatic and economic relations with Beijing. In Ethiopia, where Allied Gold Corp is developing the Kurmuk mine, the matter is being closely monitored by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's office.
