The ancient pyramids of Giza loom over a huge building of concrete and glass. Beyond, lies a vast expanse of stony desert. The structure is grey, just like the sky above, which is a constant smog of dust and pollution. Car parks and palm trees surround it. That building, designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, is soon set to house the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and become the largest Ancient Egyptian artifacts museum complex in the world.
