The South African army is operating a cargo plane chartered by Sapsan Airline that leaves Pretoria on an almost daily basis to supply its peacekeepers in eastern DR Congo. In a context of high tension between Kinshasa and M23 rebels, the South African military wants to be prepared for any eventuality.

The deployment of a Quick Reaction Force (QRF) of Ivorian peacekeepers to boost the UN mission, MINUSCA, in the Central African Republic was first broached in 2021 but has not yet happened. The troops should however arrive by mid-2023.

With the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Ivory Coast and Benin, expressing their wish to withdraw their peacekeeping contingents from the MINUSMA mission in Mali, the United Nation's Department of Peace Operations (DPO) has been trying to compensate for the expected loss of peacekeepers.

Morocco orders Turkish armed drones as hostilities resume in Western Sahara

Turkey's Baykar, which has close links with Erdogan, is to supply attack drones to the Moroccan army. The contract will not radically change the military balance between Morocco and Algeria but has been signed just as hostilities are resuming against Polisario in Western Sahara.
