From Paris to Ankara, via Moscow, Abu Dhabi and Algiers, the Egyptian head of state has reshaped his country's diplomatic line-up in response to regional crises and shifting alliances.

The departure of Sameh Shoukry in 2024 prompted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to reshuffle his diplomatic team, which the former foreign minister had controlled since 2014. The regional crisis over Gaza, the recalibration of relations with Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, and the return of Donald Trump to the White House precipitated much
