UK Export Finance (UKEF) finances only a handful of projects in Africa - ten in total in 2020-2021 involving a total sum of £2.3bn (€2.7bn), or a little over 16% of its budget. But it is because of an African investment that UKEF has made the most headlines in the UK and abroad in recent months. At issue is its loan of more than £910m to the Mozambique LNG mega-project being developed by TotalEnergies in the province of Cabo Delgado (see our running story).
