UN struggles to replace resident coordinator
The Burkianbe junta has once again rejected the United Nations' request for certification for a replacement of the organisation's resident coordinator Barbara Manzi.
Stéphane Romatet was named French ambassador to Algeria on Wednesday, where he is slated to replace François Gouyette, who will leave the post in July. The appointment comes as tensions between Paris and Algiers are beginning to settle.
Three months after Traoré's coup d'état, during which several French interests were attacked, Paris has yet to find a way to re-establish control in the country. Its ambassador's days are numbered and the departure of the Sabre task force is underway.
