Ouattara moves to end Eranove's drinking water monopoly
On the Ivorian president's orders, Prime Minister Patrick Achi is taking steps to open up the drinking water market, currently dominated by the French company's subsidiary SODECI.
With local and regional elections eight months away and a presidential poll due in 2025, the Ivorian president is determined to bolster his majority. His RHDP party has launched a massive campaign to drum up support that is dealing unprecedented blows to two of his predecessors.
On 10 January, Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara ordered the payment with arrears of the financial sum that Laurent Gbagbo had been claiming for over two years. Shortly afterwards, the two men spoke by telephone, and have agreed to meet in February.
