Since the Nigerian took charge of the pan-African bank the number of its member states has almost doubled, thanks in large part to his ties to billionaire Aliko Dangote and his fellow development bankers.

Since taking the helm of the Africa Finance Corp (AFC) in 2018, Nigerian Samaila Zubairu has turned the state-backed investment bank into one of the continent's leading financial institutions. On 25 June, Angola announced a $185m capital investment, a move other countries are expected to follow in the coming months.
