Despite losing exclusive use of its railway in favour of US firm Ivanhoe Atlantic, Lakshmi Mittal's conglomerate remains particularly influential in Liberia. That position has been helped by the US president who has personally involved himself in this matter in West Africa, after intense lobbying by the Indian group.
