Under the watchful gaze of the Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, his special envoy for the Lake Chad basin, Baba Gana Kingibe, is continuing to do his best to contain the instability in Chad, which could pose a threat to Nigeria's borders.

Embassies, international bodies, military support, language ties... Portugal is using all the resources at its disposal to maintain its position in Africa, particularly in its former colonies, where it still has strong economic links. Its resources are limited, however.
