Hery Rajaonarimampianina and Marc Ravalomanana have been discreetly working on an electoral pact. They struck a deal in principle last month and may reach out to other opposition leaders in Madagascar to take on an electoral system that is very firmly in the hands of the current president.

The new competition commissioner, Doris Tshepe, is dealing with Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel's, intention to secure jobs and empower Black South Africans into the economy. He is circumventing the Competition Commission in order to do so, much to the dismay of South African business leaders.

Morocco's bid to host the 2025 African Cup of Nations looks like a winner, with Algeria so far the only other candidate officially in the race. King Mohammed VI's envoys have been criss-crossing the continent for weeks to ensure the kingdom wins.
