Conakry gives green light to Kanté and Sinohydro to resume their bauxite operations

Despite ongoing legal proceedings, GIC, led by former mining minister Ahmed Kanté, has signed a settlement agreement with the authorities to secure a position in the country's second largest bauxite mining complex. At a standstill since 1 April 2025, the project has received financial support from the Chinese state-owned giant.

In addition to a long-anticipated security component, Somaliland's president is seeking to attract Israeli investment in several sectors during his forthcoming visit. A stop at an emblematic site in Jerusalem is also under consideration, with a view to defusing tensions over the Palestinian issue.
