SADC regional force finds its feet in Goma

The Southern African Development Community has sent several hundred soldiers to eastern DR Congo, the first instalment of a force to be deployed there at the request of President Félix Tshisekedi. But the deployment is suffering delays, and operations against M23 rebels have not yet got under way.

Faced with diplomatic paralysis, a joint EAC and SADC summit is being held in Tanzania this week. Since the M23 took control of Goma, French diplomats have been trying to set up a group of mediators to resolve the emergency in DR Congo.
