Somali president keeps Addis guessing over GERD inauguration

Beset by turmoil in Somalia's Gedo border region, where the Ethiopian, Kenyan and Somalian territories come together, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's government is seeking concessions from Addis Ababa in return for attending the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam inauguration.

Prominent guests absent from the inauguration of Renaissance mega-dam

Ethiopia wants to celebrate the launch of the GERD in style. This project, on the Nile, is the largest water project on the continent. Although Abiy Ahmed is taking advantage of an international conference to invite foreign leaders, several heads of state will be absent.
