Turkey's armed drones make third Sahel conquest Free
The Burkina Faso army has started operating five Turkish Bayraktar TB2 attack drones.
Despite his reelection, Patrice Talon's main opponent remains behind bars on vague suspicions of "financing terrorism". But he will have to reckon with Madougou's powerful supporters among whom are two of the region's sitting presidents as well as oligarch Mahamadou Bonkoungou and lawyer Antoine Vey, a former associate of French justice minister Dupond-Moretti.
Mahamadou Bonkoungou, owner of Air transport company LTI, recently purchased a new luxury jet, used by the president of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, among others. He also invested in a freighter for his construction company Ebomaf.
Already the owner of Burkina's International Business Bank, the CEO of the construction firm Ebomaf has his sights set on the Togolese banks UTB and BTCI as well as the pan-African company Orabank, in which the Ivorian civil servants' pension fund recently acquired a majority stake.
As business magnates Michel Tomi and Samuel Dossou see their business aviation companies go into nosedive, the aircraft operated by Burkina Faso's Mahamadou Bonkoungou are attracting bookings from presidencies throughout West Africa and will soon start flying from Central Africa as well.
