General Cheikh Wade splashes out on new military vehicles for the army
Senegal's Chief of Army Staff, General Cheikh Wade, proudly welcomed a delivery of new military equipment for the army in late June.
The South African armoured vehicle manufacturer OTT Technologies recently won a contract in Somalia after clinching similar deals in Burkina Faso and Mali. It has been going head to head with Osprea Logistics for peacekeeping contracts and deals involving donations by third-party states to struggling African armies.
By delivering 100 Mamba Mk7 vehicles to the Togolese army in the near future, Osprea Logistics is taking advantage of Lomé's major reinforcement plan. Its competitors, South Africa's Paramount and France's Arquus, are trying to get in on the game.
South Africa's OTT Technologies has joined up with US defence contractor PAE to supply 24 Puma M26 armoured vehicles to the Burkinabe army to help it fight against the growing use of improvised explosive devices by jihadist groups, with the help of the US army.
