Bejaia port extension to resume after 5-year hiatus

Algeria's second biggest port, which is set to play a crucial role in a number of industrial and mining projects, is to relaunch the extension project it began in 2017. Five new quays are to be built and China's CHEC has been contacted for the dredging of the port's existing docks.

The former FLN MP for Mascara, Abdelmalek Sahraoui, a key business figure of the Bouteflika era, has been in prison for corruption since April. His construction company Irrigout, run by his brother Omar Sahraoui, has however just won an important road contract.
