In the fields on the outskirts of Thiès in Senegal, the bags of fertiliser bear the green logo of OCP Africa. They come from Jorf Lasfar, a Moroccan industrial complex that processes phosphate mined in Khouribga into fertilisers to "feed the world".
Senegalese farmers, who make up the customer base, are being denied information about the exact cadmium content of the fertilisers spread on their land. This heavy metal, classified as a carcinogen by the European Union, poses a threat to public health.
