EDM moves ahead with plan to build dams
Thanks to funding from the African Development Bank (ADB), state-run Electricité du Mali (EDM) is looking for a consulting firm to carry out the feasibility study for a dam in Toubani.
Chinese construction giant Sinohydro, which won the contract for the extension of Rabat-Salé Airport in 2019 with a bid well below that of the leading Moroccan construction companies, is a long way behind with work on the contract and could even abandon it.
The national electricity board has commissioned Cegelec, a subsidiary of French group Vinci, to connect Laâyoune in Western Sahara to the national grid. This line will be used to offload electricity from the Sahrawi power plants of Mohammed VI's company Nareva.
The subsidiary of the construction company Vinci, which was the only French firm to have responded to a tender call for several roadworks contracts in the greater Abidjan area, has more than held its own against rival Chinese giants who were also in the running.
