Nigeria wins round in $9bn legal battle with P&ID

In an effort to bring to an end its legal dispute with P&ID, the Nigerian state has brought its right to sovereign immunity back to centre stage.

Attorney General Abubakar Malami, who enjoys particularly close relations with President Buhari, has in less than 10 years become Nigeria's self-proclaimed champion in the battle against the misappropriation of public funds. His role in preventing oil company P&ID from seizing state assets worth $9bn has served as a springboard in this respect and helped him to sideline his main rival.
