Tycoon Tony Elumelu boosts holding by bringing AFC's ex-chairman on board
By appointing Nigerian financier Andrew Alli as non-executive director of his holding company Heirs, Tony Elumelu has even more chances of attracting investors.
Elumelu turned to Amundi, a Crédit Agricole subsidiary, to expand his family-owned holding company's oil portfolio. The Nigerian philanthropist and business mogul, who was instrumental in organising Emmanuel Macron's 2018 visit to Lagos, has ramped up his dealings with French companies.
The world's largest asset manager has quietly been building a sizeable portfolio of African assets and an increasing sphere of influence on the continent. It operates by acquiring management mandates from public institutions and central branks and taking shares in businesses that drive economic growth.
The new international communications advisor at the Elysée Palace, Anne-Sophie Bradelle, appointed in late March, has a strong background in African politics. When on assignment with Euro RSCG, now Havas, she was involved in Guinean Alpha Condé's successful presidential bid in 2010 and Thomas Boni Yayi's winning campaign in Benin the following year.
