Senegal finally gets a shop window for its mining sector
After a more than 10-year wait, Senegal's mines register developed by US company Trimble is online.
To help win a contract to assess opportunities in Angola's oil sector, the Scottish consultancy Belltree has turned to the well-connected businessman Bráulio de Brito, president of the UK-Angola Chamber of Commerce.
Since early August, mining operators in the DRC have been pushing back against recent fiscal and budgetary measures introduced by the central government in Kinshasa. On 8 September, the leading industry players turned out in force for a meeting with President Félix Tshisekedi.
The centrepiece of Angola's mining reform, the new sector regulatory authority, will be lead by the former deputy director-general of South Africa's mines ministry, Jacinto Rocha. Joining Rocha are former Ferrangol executives and officials from other national regulators.
