Alassane Ouattara to chair council of ministers on 24 May
Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara will chair an extraordinary council of ministers in Abidjan on 24 May.
As a result of France's decision to end Operation Barkhane in the Sahel, Ivory Coast will be called on to play a more important role in France's reorganised military presence in West Africa. A new defence attache is to be appointed in Abidjan to boost military cooperation between both countries.
The Ivorian president's unshakable determination to run for re-election on 31 October is increasingly irking the international community. At the same time, several West African states are unhappy over the treatment of the former head of state Laurent Gbagbo.
