Ramaphosa bets heavily on revival of ANC Youth League to win re-election in 2022

After having long been a breeding ground for future party officials, ministers and presidents, the ANC Youth League has been a shadow of its former self since the ousting of its charismatic leader Julius Malema in 2011. As the ANC's 2022 national conference approaches, President Ramaphosa is doing his utmost to get it back into battle order.

Six members of the National Task Team (NTT) set up by the all-powerful ruling ANC in April to rebuild its youth wing, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL), have found out to their cost that the organisation will from now on enforce its statutory 35-year age limit strictly. The league, which is a political trampoline and training ground for future party officials,
