Ramaphosa and Kikwete seek Kiir's attention

The South African head of state and the AU's new special envoy for the Horn of Africa are launching an initiative to restore dialogue between the South Sudanese government and its long-standing opponent, Riek Machar. However, the president, who is busy organising his own nationwide forum in the run-up to the elections, remains unresponsive to calls to release his rival.

Washington and Port-Louis wrestle over Diego Garcia sovereignty

The return of the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius is being undermined by delays in the UK over ratification of the treaty. At the heart of tensions is the strategic atoll housing a US military base, whose importance has been highlighted since the escalation of conflicts in the Middle East.
